But what about printer printers that can produce high-quality prints in just a few minutes, even for just $399?
That’s what a team of engineers at Zebra Labs, a San Francisco-based startup, is working on.
Zebra Labs is developing a printer that’s capable of producing printable artworks that are less than $1,000, and that will be able to print on the Zebra 3D printer that powers most of the 3D printers used in the consumer market.
“This is a first-of-its-kind printer that we believe can really make a difference in the printing and distribution of art prints,” Zebra’s head of product, Ryan Gries, told Fortune.
“You could have a printing experience in minutes and still be able access the art print from the printer in your home.”
The Zebra printers use an open-source 3D printing software called Zebra, which is used to make many kinds of printed objects.
The software uses a proprietary material called Cylindrical Ink (CK), which can be produced with any standard printer.
The technology is cheap to build and relatively easy to install, and it’s made possible by a custom firmware that enables the Zephyr 3D Printer to print with its own proprietary ink.
The printers are also designed to work with many different materials, including acrylics, ceramics, and even watercolor prints.
The Zebra Zebra and Zebra Blue printers, for example, are designed for watercolor, and the Zebrona 3D prints are designed to be printed on wood.
For the Zabrona printers, Gries and his team are also working on a 3D scanner, which will allow them to print objects with the quality and fidelity that traditional printers offer.
“We’re not a 3d printing company, we’re not an art print printing company,” he said.
“We’re a 3-D printer company that wants to help you get high-performance printables.”
The printers, which cost between $499 and $1.2 million, can print in the colors of your choice, such as gold, silver, and blue.
But they can also be made to resemble a print of a specific object.
“The more colors you use, the more you’ll get in the print, and so on,” Gries said.
The printer will then be able convert the object into a digital image that you can use in 3D applications.
Gries said the printer has not yet been certified to run on commercial hardware, but he expects that to be coming in the next few months.
It’s also working to build a 3DS Max printer that will have the same capabilities.

“If they had an Arduino, it’s just going to be more convenient for them, but we’re really focused on making it easier and more efficient for us to build things with the technology we’re developing.”
Zebra’s Zebra3D printer can print objects on any surface, including plastic, metal, ceramic, and more.
It also can print on fabrics, and will soon be capable of printing in ink, a material that is used for printing plastic.
The printers also are being developed to make prints on other materials, such polyester, nylon, polycarbonate, and carbon fiber.
Gues said the Zaphrone printers have been tested and worked on with the likes of Microsoft, Apple, and Sony.
For now, he said, the printer is focused on creating printers that will make prints for artists and designers.
“This is just the beginning,” he explained.
“If you want a good print, you’re going to have to get a Zebra.”
